Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud is set to sign a contract extension to keep him at the club beyond 2018 as the Frenchman told the "Evening Standard" that the two sides are in talks over a new deal.

“People have been saying I have signed a new contract,” Giroud said. “It is not true but maybe soon.

"...But it is all about keeping the focus high. Always keep working hard at training. I was speaking with the boss, we had a couple of discussions together and he explained to me why I hadn’t played too much until now.”

The 30-year-old has played in only Premier League matches this season and has struggled to break into the starting lineup with both Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez in form this season, but he scored his fourth goal of the campaign in the Boxing Day win against Arsenal.
